ABOUT ARIO

Ario Bayu is one of Indonesian talented actor who had successfully stolen Indonesian film lovers. This Javanese actor started his career as a model in Indonesian magazines like Esquire Indonesia Magazine. He also had played in several qualified films in Indonesia.


When he was a senior high school in New Zealand, Ario Bayu didn’t really like science or math, the interesting subjects for him were only drama and music. His dream to become an actor came true when he was selected from 4200 students Young Talented Shakespeare competition. This competition also brought him to United Kingdom to follow the workshop for 2 months, until he decided to become an actor in his homeland, Indonesia. He got his first role as a supporting actor in Bangsal 13 (Ward 13). In this film, he played with Indonesian Superwoman Luna Maya, and Indonesian Supermodel, Endhita.


After he played in Bangsal 13, the opportunity for him to act in many films was getting bigger and bigger. He played in Belahan Jiwa (Soulmate) with many Indonesian best actresses who got the Citra (the most prestigious trophy in Indonesian film or we can call it as ‘the Indonesian Oscar’) like Dian Sastrowardoyo, Marcella Zalianty, Dinna Olivia, Nirina Zubir and Rachel Maryam. He also palyed in Pesan dari Surga (Message From Heaven, with Luna Maya, Vino G Bastian, Rianti Cartwright, Lukman Sardi, Catherine Wilson and Indah Kalalo), Tarix Jabrix, In The Name of Love (with Vino G bastian, Acha Septriasa, Luna Maya, Christine Hakim, Roy Marten, Cok Simbara etc), and also as mature Lintang in Laskar Pelangi (Raibow Troops, with Ikranagara, Cut Mini, Lukman Sardi, Mathias Muchus, Tora Sudiro etc). But from all of his films, he still thinks that his best film is KALA. Trough that film, he could go to Korea to attend the BUSAN Film Festival and from 37 festivals in the world, KALA won in 5 festivals.

Ario feels that living in Jakarta is very complex, and complex word is the best word to describe him at this time. He has lived in Jakarta since 5 years ago, his dad, mom and sibling still live in New Zealand. From the age of 19, Ario has made a target for his life and it supposes to be reached at the age of 25. But his target is getting bigger and bigger. If he has enough money, he will go to Australia to continue his study about film industry. He is a natural thinker and also a dreamer. He can dream for 24 hours a day, but he said that live in Jakarta is so hard.


In the year of 2009, Ario’s career is getting brighter. Beside he plays in many films (Pintu Terlarang, Macabre, Merah putih etc.), he also gets some awards that can support and raise his name in Indonesian film industry such as The Best Supporting Actor Nominee in Indonesian Movie Awards 2009 for the film Laskar Pelangi and Actor of the Year 2009 by Elle Indonesia Magazine. He also widens his career as a model for video clip.

The forbidden love of Luna Maya

Her name is always connected to Ariel. Luna said that her ‘eternal dishonesties’ are bag and shoes.

Who don’t know Luna Maya? Her beautiful face always appears in Dahsyat Music Show (RCTI), advertisements and also magazine’s pages. Luna is busy about her newest stripping TV serial titled Dewi right now and she is ready to promote her upcoming movie, Selasih Janda Kembang.
“Every day I wake up at 07.00, start working at 09.00 and usually finish at midnight. I want to earn a lot of money and save it. So that I can be relax at the age of 30” said Luna. There are two teasers that can’t be refused by Luna. The charm of branded bag and shoes are too shining for her.

About your most expensive shoes and your branded bag collection?
Hermes bags (the price is more than 10 million Rupiahs). The colour is orange, so the colour is same with the colour of Hermes. My branded bag collection is about 15. I had been glad to collect the branded bags since 2004. My first branded bag was Gucci. These days, I’m really crazy about Chanel and Bottega Veneta. I like the light of Bottega and the fancy models of Chanel.

The bag that you are hunting?
Louis Vitton, that is worn by Madonna, the Kalahari model (the price is >Rp.40million). So, I am saving my money right now. If I buy expensive shoes, I usually pay for some period of time to my favourite shop. I usually pay for 4-5 times. So, I seldom buy it abroad. I think about the money if I should pay cash.
What are you doing with your old bags?
If I really like it, I will keep it, just like my classic U 55 Chanel. The rest, I will sell them to the shops. If they don’t buy them, I will give them to my friends.

You are a shoe lover too, aren’t you?
Yup. Used to be I have about 100 pairs of shoes. Because I always move, so the half of them I gave to my friend and family. Not all of them are expensive branded. But I’m so crazy about Christian Louboutin (she has more than 5 pairs) and Giuseppe Zanotti. But I wear them for special occasions. I prefer Mellisa’s wedges for my daily activities.

Have you found your true love?
(laughing). I don’t know. If I have a husband, so I can talk about it. If still dating, so nobody knows.


If you had loved somebody, are the types of person who can do everything for him, include waiting?
One thing for sure is, if I want to wait for him, it means that I have a feeling. I’m kinda person who follow my feeling.

So you back again to Ariel Peterpan right now?
My focus is only for him right now.

Your opinion about bad boys?
I’m usually curious, is it right about what people said? But sometimes there is a man who looks so bad boy but the fact is his heart is so kind.

Fachri Albar and his girlfriend Marsha Timothy became the cover of femina magazine few months ago..

If seeing their physical appearance, they are deserved to be called as a perfect couple. Fachri Albar (28) who’s handsome seems to be so match with the beautiful Marsha Timothy (30). The ‘too good to be true’ impression is looked more real when Marsha accompanies his soulmate in the hardest moment: when Fachri is suspected as junkies. After that storm was over – The BNN proved that Fachri is free from drugs – for the first time they act as marriage couple in Pintu Terlarang, the latest film of Joko Anwar.

Both of them were met in the afternoon, in the middle of photo session preparation for the cover of this edition. (both of them were interviewed in the different room to get the different answer). femina can feels the strong chemistry between them. Not only based on their answers, but also from their eye contact.

ACTING TOGETHER IS SO HARD

“A big wrong if somebody said that acting with our real couple will be easier because it will be easier for them to make the chemistry in front of the camera”. That’s the answer of Ai’, that’s how people call Fachri. In fact, in Pintu Terlarang, Ai’ and Caca, Marsha’s nick name, can successfully play the character of Talyda and Gambir, the marriage couple who have their own emotional problem, and live together with love and cheating.

Your first impression when starring Pintu Terlarang?

Fachri: From the story, this thriller drama film is so cool. I was so nervous can I play the character of Gambir.

Marsha: At the beginning, Joko gave this film script to Ai’. They ever work together in Kala. I was so happy when Joko ask me to play in this film. This film’s story is awesome; we become the unique couple, not just like in the ordinary love story.

This is the first time you act together; do you have any special preparation?

Fachri: When I knew that Marsha was also asked by Joko to play as Talyda, in every meeting we always discuss about this film.

Marsha: This is the first film that we act together. Beside that, I never got any proposal to act the character like Talyda.

How was the feeling when you act with your lover?

Fachri: So difficult. We need to burn our chemistry and build the new chemistry.

Marsha: It is really not easy. If the story is easy, maybe we were not too difficult. In this film, Gambir’s character that has to be played by Ai’ is so hard emotionally. Talyda’s character is also difficult.

Have you ever had a conflict in the location?

Fachri: Yup, when I was not satisfied with one of the scene. I thought about it over and over (Ai’ said, because he wanted to give the best result, he became so hard to satisfied with his work). So, when Caca told about her shooting’s result, my emotion could be easily exploded. She ever given me a compliment, “Babe, your acting was good.” I wasn’t satisfied and refuse the compliment. Act with your girlfriend need a good ego controlling.

Marsha: I couldn’t freely tell about my acting. So, I was often upset. Fortunately, our focus was on the film at that time. After shooting, our relationship becomes better.

BEING THE BALANCER

Before officially become a lover, Fachri who is (actually) shy and not confident, said that he is Marsha’s secret admirer. At that time, he just only knew Marsha’s nick name. “I just adore in my heart, I wasn’t dare to do anything because she had a boyfriend at that time,” said the actor of Jakarta Undercover. But, because of he is Caca’s fans; he didn’t want to pass the opportunity to meet Caca.

How was your first meeting?

Marsha: Actually we have known each other, but it was just “hi”, if our friends meet together. In 2006, I was asked a character and asked to meet Ai’ who will become my friend.

Fachri: There was a funny story behind that meeting. Actually, when the producer called, I know that I couldn’t make it because of my full schedule. But, after Lukman Sardi – who was there when I receive the phone call – told me that Marsha Timothy is Caca, I directly called back and asked him to meet me with Caca.

After that, you become closer?

Marsha: Hmm... I forget about our closing process. But one thing for sure is, after that meeting we often make a phone call.

Fachri: No, until one day when I was with Gary Iskak (Who played with Caca in Merah Itu Cinta) was calling Caca. Gary gave his cell phone to so we can had a chit chat, after that we often call each other because Caca was already single.

What make you love each other?

Marsha: About kindness, absolutely. People see that Ai’ seems arrogant, in fact he is more patient than me and always think positive about anybody else. He becomes the balancer, because I am grumpy, he is cooler and calmer to face the problem.

Fachri: She is click (the feeling in his heart which is hard to be explained) in my heart. I’m not a man who can easily say love words to women. It’s so hard for me to find a click couple and know her inside and outside. That feeling is gotten by a process. I love her seriously.

Your love story always happy?

Marsha: No. We often fight each other in the beginning of our relationship. Little problem, for example if we were not in a good mood. Ai’ thought that I was so hard to opened, and unfortunately I didn’t think so. I prefer be a listener to a speaker in a relationship. It was quiet long to make me opened to Ai’.

Fachri: Our beginning relationship, I ever stress and wanted to give up because I thought that Caca was so introvert. I can’t have a relationship with someone who I don’t know her personality. Fortunately, Caca still survived and didn’t want me to give up. After that, I knew that her introvert was because of she was shy. Actually, when Caca can be opened, woooow… she is a fantastic woman. She is so kind to every people around me.

1000% SURPRISE

Hearing that they adoring each other can make a jealousy. But, actually this couple doesn’t like to express their love with words, but with attitude. How can they sure that each of their couple is the best?

Both of you still together when facing the drug suspect case, don’t you?

Fachri: Yeah, I appreciated Caca so much at that time, she always accompany me.

Marsha: Because I knew the real fact and the bad news about Ai’ did not affect me.

Are you all a romantic people?

Fachri: Caca is romantic enough; she often gives me her handmade card. I myself like to give her a surprise. And if I already have willingness, I will give a 1000% surprise that can make her cry happily.

Marsha: Ai’ isn’t a romantic guy. But I also don’t really like a romantic guy. One day he gave me an unexpected gift. A CD of our pictures with songs and long words. It was the most amazing gift…

You meet each other almost every day, what do you usually do?

Fachri: We like watching and eating. I eat everything, eventough I’m not a new restaurant hunter. Unfortunately, Caca often limits his food to control her weight. But actually I think that she is too thin (teasing smile)

Marsha: Our favourite food is steak, so that we know the place of delicious food.

Do you celebrate Valentine?

Fachri: There is no special celebration, just having dinner together.

Marsha: We never have a special ritual to celebrate Valentine. Last year we even didn’t do anything because I was busy. This year, we are promoting Pintu Terlarang.

Do you have something that you don’t like from your couple?

Fachri: Nothing. Even if she is grumping, it’s for my goodness. For example, remaining me to eat or keep my health.

Marsha: Ai’ is so slow. For example about taking a bath, he can make me mad. He said that he want to take a bath, but when I called him again, he still said that he want to take a bath. And when I called again, he still said the same thing.

Your way to get away from tempˈtation?

Fachri: We are responsible to our commitment.

Marsha: For me, the most important is appreciating our couple. So that, we will think twice if we want to do something that can break his heart.

How do you solve your ‘different religion’ problem?

Fachri: Of course we have thought about it. About the solution, it become our private secret.

I don’t feel that we have different religion, because God is just only one. Beside that, our parents also don’t make that as a problem.

So, are you ready for marriage?

Fachri: Hmmm… (just smiling).

Marsha: There is no plan yet.

DEAD BY DAWN 09: Review of THE FORBIDDEN DOOR (PINTU TERLARANG)

About 5 minutes into Joko Anwar’s latest film and I was convinced that he was actually God. Another 40 minutes and I had realised that he wasn’t really, but that he is rather an incredibly talented director with an imagination the size of a starship. The fact that Quiet Earth had highly recommended this based on Anwar’s previous film Kala had peaked my interest, but I had no idea what I was getting myself into here.

The film opens with Gambir’s latest exhibition, life casts of pregnant women which are causing a stir in the art world and fetching a very good price for the young sculptor. Although his girlfriend, Talyda, is proud of him and his friends appear to be happy for his success, there remains a air of jealousy and rivalry in their conversation which runs throughout the film, and becomes one of the central themes that this picture deals with, along with weakness, masculinity, secrets, pride, infidelity, murder and eventually insanity. Anwar’s film is so layered and mysterious, it’s a compelling and beautiful work.

The actual plot of the movie is not as important as the tone and atmosphere, the sense of barely concealed madness that occasionally bursts onto the screen. However I shall try: Gambir is a sensitive and gentle artist who is chastised by his mother, bullied by his girl and dismissed by his friends. After a visit to an abortion clinic to take care of an unplanned pregnancy, he starts to receive messages in the form of phone calls, graffiti and even fortune cookies that all simply say, ‘Help Me…’ This is the first in a series of sub-plots that run neatly and in parallel with the overall story that sees Gambir pushed to the limit of his sanity and cause an eventual breakdown. There is also ‘The Door’ itself, not as important a plot devise as I had assumed, which leads me to believe that the ‘Door’ in the title may just be the movie itself. A kind of ‘Enter if you dare’ from Joko himself. Gambir wants to know what’s behind it, but Talyda pleads for him not to open it. Care to guess what happens? Not what you’d think. I really don’t want to give any more away, even though I’ve not even scratched the surface of a film that includes blackmail, secret societies, child abuse, Russian roulette, racket ball and a Christmas dinner never to be forgotten (or is that remembered?)

It’s been a long time since a film has come along that’s been so playfully weird and yet so skillfully constructed. For fans of David Lynch and even Alejandro Jodorowsky (comparisons cannot help but be made) this is one for you, a twisted and gleefully bizarre tail. It’s a mystery full of unexpected turns that confound expectations and keep one glued to the screen for the full two-hour running time. Sure, I was confused and trying to make sense of something that didn’t want sense to be made of it, yet at no point did I squirm, yawn or think about dinner, everything worked. The music, colour schemes and especially the insane sense of humour that had the audience at my screening laughing out loud and often (you’ve got to love horror festival audiences, few others will openly laugh at explicit violence).

So, get ye to a screening! Don’t miss this, it’s the genuine article.

He gets two nominees as The Most Favourite Leading Actor and also as The Best Leading Actor in the Film "3 Doa 3 Cinta". Nico always acts a unique character in every his movie. And so do in this movie. He acts as a 17 years old student of Islamic School in Java. In this movie, Nico played his role naturally, no wonder that he also got the nominee as The Best Leading Actor in Indonesia Film Festival 2008 trough this film also. This movie is the third time Nico play with his "filmmate" Dian Sastrowardoyo after "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta" and "Drupadi". 3 Doa 3 Cinta also gets the nominee as The Most Favourite Movie in IMA 2009.

• Ario Bayu

Eventough he just appear in the last two scene of "Laskar Pelangi", but his acting in this film make him get The Best Supporting Actor in IMA 2009. the Film itself, get 14 nominees in this event (including The Most Favourite Movie, The Best Leading Actor and The Beast Leading Actress). Ario act as the mature Lintang (The boy who didn't finish his school because of his father's dead) the best friend of Ichal. With a dirty and calm outlook, Ario succeed to act as a poor person, and he also has a big change to win The Best Supporting Actor title in IMA 2009. Laskar Pelangi (Rainbow Troops) itself, also got the nominee for The Best Film in Asian Film Festival.


Beside our treasures, there are also another amazing nominee from The Most Favourite Movie like Ayat - Ayat Cinta, Love and Gara - Gara Bola, and also Fiksi who got the Best Film in Indonesia Film Festival 2008.
